The Dynamics of Ego in a Marriage

Conflicts in a relationship arise out of the basic need to further boost or feed ones ego. However experts claim that men have a more fragile ego than women. This is contributed by facts which show that women can manage their emotional stress more easily than men.

Self esteem and self confidence play host to ego complexities for both men and women alike but it is the way in which a woman is able to channelize her emotional needs that makes her more strong and independent of herself.

If the husband realizes that he is not being able to meet the emotional demands of his wife and that she has to seek for help and support outside the marriage then the marriage suffers at the hands of his ego. It is very rare that he will try meeting her demands. Instead rising tensions and disbelief will eventually cause them to separate.

Ego however is a subjective trait and can vary from person to person with different levels of intensity. It is intrinsic to us and we shouldn’t be devoid of it for the simple reason that it reflects self, love respect and esteem. However, too much of anything is not healthy and conducive for a good living. So learn to control your emotions.

If you feel that your ego is being damaged by the words and actions of your spouse then you need to talk to your partner about it. Ignoring potential problems of your ego and your spouse can lead to adverse situations like a complete separation. But the success of a marriage likes in understanding each others emotions and feelings. Ego comes into play when your feelings are dejected. So respect the ego in yourself and your spouse to lead a peaceful life.
