Having to bear with the whims and fancies of a spouse is unique to a relationship. Bringing each other to realize the worth and interests of oneself is a big challenge that most couples face in marriages since ages and that is contributed by the uniqueness of every person.
Christmas calls for great activity, fun and responsibility which some couples may fret about fulfilling but the most apt solution would be to build an interest for each other, your kids and the occasion.
Tips to make Christmas interesting for your spouse:
- Try finding out why he or she dislikes celebrating Christmas and offer solutions to overcome those inhibitions. For example, arranging for Christmas activities could involve a lot of finances which can be an obstacle to a flashy celebration which kids or a spouse may be expecting.
- Maybe you are over emphasizing your role and interests in the occasion and ignoring the suggestions and ideas that your spouse is trying to communicate to you but is failing nevertheless due to your dominating nature.
- Different families hold different traditions and ways of doing things. So one can feel uncomfortable or wary about certain things he or she may not be familiar with. It is then your responsibility as a better half to explain or make him or her feel comfortable during this festive season.
- Do not strain your relationships with your spouse by imposing your ideas and beliefs in his or her mind. As each one is unique learn to respect your spouse’s views and opinions as well because there are three different adjustments a spouse is trying to make, that is, one of his or her partner, her or his own and that of the family. So allow your spouse the freedom to enjoy Christmas the way he or she likes it.
