Most problems in marriage start off with ego by either of the couple. Ego is an enemy to relationships. Once it sets in, it is very difficult to get this little villain removed. Ego problems may arise out of a number of reasons:
Professional ego
It is not uncommon nowadays to find the wife earning more and enjoying a higher professional status than her husband. Unfortunately, not all husbands take this lightly. Their ego begins to prick them, taking a toll on their good marital relationship. Problems start when the man tells his wife to quit the job. Insults are exchanged, finally spoiling the marriage forever.
Ego in the household
Not many men like to take the ‘equal rights’ notion for granted. They feel insulted at having been asked to lend a helping hand in the kitchen or do the babysitting for a while. Commanding husbands take such simple tasks seriously till their ego hurts. However, a marriage breaks not only when men show their ego. Women too play a role in letting ego take control of a happy married life. She might envy her husband’s success and fame and instead of feeling proud and happier than most other women in the neighborhood, she lets her pride and false dignity take the better of her, ending up comparing her own achievements with her hubby’s.
Keep away ego
A marriage, as they say is a sacred institution and it does not deserve to be broken apart by something as insensible as ego. Couples enjoy each other better only when they appreciate each other’s good points and give and take encouragement. Both should try and take some time off their schedule to spend time with each other and share personal joys and worries. This destroys building up ice if any.
