How to Deal With a Marriage While Working Together

It is often believed that when a couple works together it is impossible to avoid problems in a marriage. With the BPO culture growing in India it has become very common to find couples who work together and quite enjoy it. But sometimes the career issues creep into a marriage and make things sour to quite an extent. It is possible to avoid such problems if both are ready to make certain compromises.
Couples who share the same career space have to work a little more on their marriage than other couples. You can make your marriage and your career both an adventure, if you keep certain things in mind. Here are a few easy ways to deal with a marriage and a career.
SPACE – Make sure you give each other enough space. Do not encroach on the work space of your partner, let him/her deal with their work the way they want to. Avoid instructing you spouse about their work, even if you know it better. It’s best to let them have their own work space without interfering with it. If possible try to work in different departments, so that there is no scope of sharing work space.
TRUSRT – It’s very important to have faith in one another. This is a general requirement in a marriage, but when working together it becomes more important to trust each other. You must trust each other with the career decisions either of you make.
RESPECT – It’s very important to respect the each other’s space and time. Learn to disagree if needed. A healthy argument will only enrich your relationship. It’s quite possible to have different working styles; you should learn to respect each other are working style.
SENSE OF HUMOR – A very important ingredient of a successful marriage is sense of humor. It adds that extra life and glitter to your marriage. When working with each other humor plays a very important role, it helps you deal better with stress. Both of you must possess a good sense of humor and have the correct spirit to take jokes.
AVOID COMPETITION – Try to keep competition out of your marriage. Power struggle is bound to make any relationship bitter, a marriage being the most sensitive of all relationships.
DIVIDE TIME WELL – Make sure you do not mix work time with family time. Usually couples who work together tend to spent more time working.
GOOD COMMUNICATION – Keep the communication open, if there are any problems make sure you talk to your partner about it. Discuss your career issues and well as personal problems. It’s very important to have good communication skills.
Working together is a wonderful experience, and has its own advantages. The drawbacks are easy to avoid. Just enjoy the time and never let friendship die!
