Depression, at times causes a marriage to turn upside down. Dealing with a depressed husband who does not want to share his heart’s feelings, or is cranky or has lost interest in life can be trying for the wife. Sometimes, the wife wonders if the man she is living with is the same man she married some years back.
Their lack of interest in you and life can be very disturbing. However, it cannot be all that difficult if one follows these following tips.
1) Know What Is Depression: In order to deal with depression, one needs to know what it is. This helps one to be more aware and prepared to deal with this disorder.
2) Understand: One needs to be very understanding and empathetic of their spouse who is suffering from depression. It’s not very easy for a depressed person to just “Snap Out “ of what they are going through. Depression drains out any optimism, energy and motivation a person has.
3) Do Not Take It Personally: Do not take what the person says very seriously. The person is suffering from depression so he/she does not know what they are talking.
4) Be Realistic: It is important that one be very realistic about what’s happening to their loved one. One cannot expect a person to snap out of depression in the first few attempts.
5) Don’t Take Charge: The best person who can help your suffering spouse is your spouse himself or herself. They alone are the ones who can do something about their lives. So don’t blame if your self if your husband refuses to deal with the problem.
Keep these points in mind and deal effectively with your spouse.
