Declining Wedding Invitations In A Polite Way

Wedding invitations sometimes pour in at a time, when one is very busy and is caught up with a lot more other work. At such times it becomes very hard for an individual to choose between the urgent work they have at hand and the marriage invitation they have got from their dear one.

This at times also leads to guilt and embarrassment, when the invitation that has been received is from a person very dear to one’s heart.

One can deal with the situation by declining the invitation in a way that is absolutely non-offending.

1)    Make sure you inform the couple, way in advance i.e. 2-3 weeks before they submit the guest count to the caterers. You informing them prepares them well in advance, your non-informing them on the other hand would cause them to be irritated with you.

2)    Silence on the part of the guest, is taken as a sign of approval from the host, who takes it for granted that you are going to attend their special occasion.

3)    Be very brief and hit the nail, in stating the reason as to why you cannot be present for the wedding. Do not beat around the bush.

4)    After you have stated the reason, do not be overwhelmed with guilt, instead be happy for the couple and ask them to send you the pictures of their wedding, send them a videotaped message where you are toasting to the couple. Though the couple that is very dear to you may be upset at your reason for absence, your interest in their wedding will definitely please them.

5)    You could also post a gift for the couple, because they have considered your presence to be very important at their special occasion. The gift need not be anything elaborate. A simple gift may also denote your well wishes and joy at the blessed reunion.

Keep these points in mind, they may prove to be very useful when you are caught in a tricky situation.
