Post Abortion Syndrome is a common phenomenon amongst women who undergo abortion. There are severe physical and psychological effects. Not only this, the negative effects of abortion greatly affect a marital relationship.
A woman may go through severe emotional crises and a husband needs to be very patient during this phase. He has to be very encouraging and supportive of his wife.
Here are some tips on how a husband should support his wife during this hard time.
1) Anger: A woman may project great anger towards her self for killing her unborn baby, as abortion is going against the maternal instinct of “Nurturing and Caring for a life”. As a result of which a woman may be very bitter towards herself and the people who are close to her. During such times the husband needs to constantly assure her and patiently stand by her.
2) Guilt: A woman may face severe bouts of guilt and may be desperate to make up for the killing of her unborn child. She may cry bitterly, be sulky for days and may take great time to come back to normalcy. At this time a woman may need a lot of social support from loved ones.
3) Suicide: A woman who has undergone an abortion is nine times likely to commit a suicide. Therefore a constant watch has to be kept over her reaction patterns. The husband and other family members have to show a lot of love and acceptance towards the woman.
4) Depression: Abortion can be very traumatizing for a woman. At no level should a woman be left alone and expected to behave in a normal way. Husbands should try to go out of their way to support a woman.
Husbands and other family members should not under estimate the negative effects of abortion but should greatly support a woman in this time of need. Also, it is during this phase that a woman may want to break away of file for a divorce from husband due to the constant emotional trauma of abortion. If a woman is left alone to cope up with Post Abortion Syndrome, she may break up and never have a regular life again.
The negative effects of abortion should be dealt together as a couple and not as an individual in order to save the holy relationship of matrimony.
