‘Divorce Busters’ is the term used to describe counseling professionals who specialize in preventing divorces. Divorce busters try to help people understand the disadvantages of divorce. They advise couples on how to solve marriage problems.
It is estimated that close to 50% of marriages in the U.S end in divorce.
Divorce busters believe that the rising trend of divorces in U.S.A and around the world is reversible. They say that most marriage problems are solvable and do not need to end in a divorce. One of the foremost divorce busters today is Michele Weiner-Davis.
Divorce Busting
Different divorce busters have different methods. But there are some things they all use in their divorce busting plans. Here are some of them.
- Do not consider divorce an option in your marriage. Believe that all problems are solvable. Do not try to escape challenges by quitting. Face them.
- Don’t think that you have to live with some problems in marriage. Identify the problems and solve them together.
- It has been found that married couples don’t communicate. Both the spouses take each other for granted. This is the root cause of most marriage problems. Divorce busters encourage couples to communicate more and in a better way.
- Do not hesitate to consult a marriage counselor if you are having problems in your marriage.
- Forgiveness is a key in successful marriages. Remember, forgiveness is a gift you give yourself.
- What worked for one couple may not work for others. Take advice, but implement methods that best suit both of you in solving problems.
- Do not ignore the sexual part of your marriage. Educate yourself and your spouse on how you can improve the sex.
- Look for the positives in your relationship and accentuate them.
- If you are going through times in your marriage, think about the times when things were going smoothly. What did you do different then that you are not doing now? What has changed?
- If you have children, think about how your divorce will affect them.
It may not be advisable to remain married if things have come to a point where you cannot stand the sight of each other. However, if you had better times together, and you atleast have hope that things can get better, then you should consider taking help of a good divorce buster.
